Tiger Woods holds putting challenge in Hollywood

Back Nine Greens creates custom turf at mall for Chevron World Challenge kick-off

SoCal fans were treated to a putting exhibition by golf legend Tiger Woods, in Hollywood on Tuesday when the four-time champion hosted a kick-off for the 2011 Chevron World Challenge.

The exhibition took place at the Central Courtyard at the Hollywood & Highland Center on a custom-built practice putting turf specially designed by Back Nine Greens.

After announcing the 18-player field for the upcoming golf tournament (Nov. 30 - Dec. 4)  Woods made his way down to the turf created for the Central Courtyard at the Hollywood & Highland Center, where he participated in a putting contest with fans, signed autographs and posed for pictures.

After an intense match-play-style putting competition, Rick Tolentino from Ventura, Calif., took home the grand prize: walking inside the ropes with Tiger during the first round of the Chevron World Challenge. After four tied holes, Tolentino eventually lost to Tiger by one stroke on the fifth.

Fans in attendance were given tickets to attend the exclusive PGA TOUR co-sponsored event held at Sherwood Country Club, Dec. 1-4.

The putting exhibition and tournament kick-off received wide distribution in media outlets, including:

Woods will join other golf heavyweights in the field of 18 in Thousand Oaks at Chevron, including Steve Stricker, Jason Day, Matt Kuchar, Nick Watney and PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley, and FedExCup champion Bill Haas.
